          Climate Change Work

Our Climate Change Sub-Group has enabled the installation of yellow light filters to the porch lights, front and back, so that insects are no longer attracted to the lights. This is working very well. Also, the two strawberry trees planted in 2023 are both doing well.
Following the flood impact report from Geosmart, we hope to enlist our freeholder, Freshwater, in our flood prevention actions.
This involves covering the ground level air vents with 'snorkel vents' to raise the vents by 45cm as well as by 90cm for the vents in the lights wells.
The other measures are filling in holes/gaps in the ground floor exterior walls, installing one-way valves to the waste water pipe outlets for the ground floor flats, and buying a box of flood barriers for the front communal doors.
A bigger challenge is the sub-basement garden doors at the back, which are not flood proof. Replacing these 13 doors will cost about £3,500 each - not practical at the moment because of the cost of the roof works due to start in 2026.

          Zebra Crossing Outside Sainsburys

We have contacted Hackney Council and our MP about the speeding traffic at the zebra crossing at the end of
Greenway Close, connecting the entrance to Clissold Park with Sainsburys. There have been a number of near misses.
We've asked for additional measures to be considered to alert/slow the traffic.

          Clissold Court Architects

Whilst looking at the Clissold Court site via Google, other sites showed that the architects were a partnership called Howes and Jackman. They also designed the newly renovated art deco Phoenix cinema in Finchley. RIBA have informed us that their names were James Frederick Howes, ARIBA 1929 (d1961) and Frederick Leonard Jackman, ARIBA 1927. Although they have information on their other designs, they have no records of their work on Clissold Court. More investigation of the architects might throw light on the begining of our estate. So far, nothing comes up via Google.
